Baby Update #2

After a week full of blood tests and one unexpected trip to the ER on Saturday, we had our second appointment with Dr. Nelson today.

Last week, they tested my HCG level on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday--- the levels rose wonderfully, and are very high. In fact, they are so high it concerned us as to why they weren't able to see anything on last Monday's ultrasound--- was I really only four weeks like Dr. Nelson thought? Because according to my levels, I could have been five, six, or seven weeks. (For the nurses reading this--- i.e. Sarah :)--- Monday's was 1,562, and by Friday it was almost 5,000.)

Anyway, on Friday when I talked to Dr. Nelson, she said we wouldn't know anything for sure until the second ultrasound on Monday (today), and to go to the ER if I had any pelvic pain or bleeding over the weekend.

Well, sure enough, at 5:00am on Saturday, a persistent, yet MILD pain woke me up and kept on for four hours, so I called and Dr. Nelson said to go to the ER. I hated to even call, because I was sure it was nothing, but thought I should do what she said.

So, we dropped Emily off with a church member and proceeded to spend upwards of four hours in the ER. They tested my HCG level again first, and it came back at almost 7,500 (a huge jump in 24 hours!). This was good. Then, they did an ultrasound and FOUND A GESTATIONAL SAC!! YEAH!!!!!! :) PRAISE GOD!!!!!!

However, they could not see the yolk sac--- and so, sent us home with the warning that they still couldn't say for sure if the baby is developing like it should. They talked to Dr. Nelson, who told them to have me take "ectopic precautions" (pelvic rest, etc.), and that she would see me on Monday.

So, that brings us to today:

On today's ultrasound, the tech said the gestational sac is measuring five weeks and one day, and that she saw a POSSIBLE yolk sac (she could not tell for sure there WAS one, and yet she could not say for sure that she DIDN'T see one). While we are so disappointed that they couldn't see everything they needed to see to put all the worrying to rest, Dr. Nelson was VERY positive. She said today's ultrasound supports her theory from last week that I was only four weeks pregnant at the time, and that she thinks we can't see the yolk sac yet because I am so early and they aren't always able to see them this early.

She said she is ruling out ectopic pregnancy; and yes, there is a chance the pregnancy is not viable and there is no yolk sac (called a Blighted Ovum), but she really thinks everything is fine!! Next Monday we go back again for a THIRD ultrasound, in which she wants to see that yolk sac!! Then, hopefully, we can breathe a final sigh of relief.

That being said, I want to say I have no doubts about My God.

You see, as my husband preached yesterday morning, My God always has the last word!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
